OxoCare

DESCRIPTION

OxoCare was created as a sector group of Cefic to foster Science and Advocacy around Carboxylic Acids and in particular regarding the substance 2-Ethylhexanoic Acid (2-EHA).

OxoCare provides a platform for representing the interests of its members towards European institutions, international organizations and national authorities.

Carboxylic acids are a class of naturally-occurring organic compounds whose main chief chemical characteristic is their acidity. Yet, they remain weaker than well-known acids such as hydrochloric acid or sulfuric acid.

Members, supported by the Cefic secretariat, aim to demonstrate the contribution of Carboxylic Acids to the circular economy as well as their benefits in a wide range of applications e.g. in disinfection, textile treatment, cellulose-based plastics production, aspirin formulation; or play a role in many diverse products such as cosmetics, detergents, pharmaceuticals, candles, rubber and protective coatings. However, one of the most important applications of carboxylic acids is in polymer industry, where they are used both as monomers and additives, resulting in products from fibers to packaging and coating.

OBJECTIVES

 Foster science around the properties of Carboxylic Acids, with a specific focus on 2-EHA, for advocacy purposes;

  • Constructively engage with relevant authorities for REACH and CLP legislations;
  • Build the case for the preservation of these acids for the realization of a circular economy in Europe.
